COVID-19 Forces Tucson Yogis Online for Yoga Classes

The COVID-19 fallout is just beginning. On Tuesday, March 17 Tucson Mayor, Regina Romero, mandated the closure of all public places where people congregate.

Yoga studios are quite vulnerable to the spread of the virus. Shared props and deep breaths are a breeding ground for COVID-19.

Mindful Yoga and Tucson Yoga were the first to close their doors on Friday, March 13 in response to COVID-19.

“Considering all the potential communication pathways of COVID-19, I cannot with good conscience keep the doors open knowing that we cannot clean or disinfect fast enough or often enough to keep everyone who enters our space safe.”

Laurent Baig, owner of Tucson Yoga, on Facebook last Friday.

On Monday a wave of studios voluntarily shut down due to COVID-19. By Tuesday the rest were forced to suspend in-studio classes until further notice.

The Yoga Online Solution

The impact of social distancing restrictions on yoga and wellness professionals and businesses is huge. The industry is largely comprised of independent contractors with zero employee benefits. For most, if they don’t work, they don’t eat. In response, many studios and teachers are now offering classes online.

In these incredibly uncertain times, yoga and meditation are so important. Here is a list of COVID-19 approved practice options from local yogis. Stay sane in these insane times while supporting the yoga community.
